Representative Joe Kennedy announced his intent to run against incumbent Senator Ed Markey this September, following months of speculation. Since then, a crowded field of 10 Democratic candidates have announced their bids to represent the Massachusetts 4th Congressional District, which stretches from Brookline and Newton to the Rhode Island border, in his place.
Massachusetts lawmakers voted to allow early voting by mail for any election held through Aug. 1, and voters taking health precautions due to the coronavirus will be eligible to vote with an absentee ballot. The Commonwealth may continue to alter or extend these voting protocols as the pandemic continues.
The Lion’s Roar reached out to all primary candidates and spoke with nine of the 10 Democratic candidates ahead of the Sept. 1 primary election. Two Republicans are also in the race.
